The Viking Sagas - Norse Legends Come to Age of Empires II
The team behind Age of Empires II: Definitive Edition has announced its next DLC – The Viking Sagas, launching in Fall 2026!
Sail into the Viking Age, where longships, shield walls and skalds' tales shape an expansion built around Scandinavia and the North Sea world.
Three New Civilizations
Danes
Pressure opponents early with swift longships to strike without warning. Their unique unit is the Jomsviking, a nimble and hardy infantryman that hurls flaming torches to devastate enemy buildings and ships.
Saxons
Construct mighty fortified towns to lock down territory and stand firm against relentless invasions. Their unique unit is the Hearth Troop, a heavy infantryman that opens fights with a ranged javelin before closing in for intense melee combat.
Varangians
Fearlessly master waterways, ride down your foes, and leverage mercenary-style flexibility. Their unique unit is the Jarl, a fearsome axe-hurling cavalryman whose attacks tear through enemy infantry.
Six New Units, Including Three Shared Ones
Beyond the three unique units, the DLC brings three units shared across the new civilizations:
- Varangian Guards — deadly shock infantry who generate gold while fighting
- Mounted Crossbowmen — hard-hitting but slow-firing ranged cavalry
- Longships — swift warships that combine potency and versatility

Three New Campaigns: Harald Hardrada
Follow the life of Harald Hardrada across three campaigns: from his cunning exploits across the Mediterranean, his brutal raids along the Danish coast, to his daring invasion of England in 1066. Earn renown through the skalds' tales and fight your way from Scandinavia to the Kyivan Rus and the Byzantine Empire, before staking everything on England's shores — facing Empress Zoe, King Svein Estridsson and King Harold Godwinson along the way.

Release & Pre-Orders
The Viking Sagas launches in Fall 2026. Pre-orders open in just a few short weeks — the DLC can already be wishlisted on Steam, Microsoft Store and Xbox, and will be available on PlayStation 5 at launch.
