Context & meta

Conscription is an Imperial Age Castle technology costing 150 food and 150 gold with 60 seconds of research time. The official help gives its precise scope: military buildings, except Siege Workshops, work 33% faster. Its upgrade record describes the same creation-speed effect for military units. It has no affected-unit list because the change applies to production buildings rather than a unit attack, armor or movement stat. Its value appears only when several production queues can stay active after the research finishes.

History & balance

Conscription turns infrastructure into tempo. It does not make an existing army stronger, but it shortens the distance between losing a unit and replacing it, provided the player has enough production buildings and resources. That distinction is important: a percentage on a building is invisible when the queue is empty. The technology belongs to the Imperial Age economy of scale, where a larger military footprint can convert a modest speed advantage into a constant stream of reinforcements. Siege Workshops are explicitly excluded, keeping the upgrade focused on standard military production.

In pro play

Research Conscription when the Castle queue can be protected and multiple military buildings are ready to produce. The 60-second research time and 150 food plus 150 gold price are a real pause in the economy, so start it before the decisive reinforcement cycle, not during a desperate rebuild with no resources. Add production only when the economy can feed it; faster empty buildings do nothing. The 33% bonus excludes Siege Workshops, so pair the research with Barracks, Ranges or Stables that match the composition. The correct signal is sustained queue pressure, not the age-up button alone.

How to counter it

Conscription has no combat counter because it is a production technology. The classic mistake is paying 150 food, 150 gold and 60 seconds while owning one idle military building, or assuming the 33% effect includes Siege Workshops when the official help explicitly excludes them. Punish the timing by raiding the economy that must feed the queues, forcing production idle, or attacking the buildings before the reinforcement stream compounds. If the opponent has the upgrade but no infrastructure, keep the pressure on instead of panicking. If you do not know when to research or punish this timing, AoE Coach reads your match-up and gives you the composition and timing.
