Donjon
Defensive - DarkBase values, before building technologies. Masonry and then Architecture each give buildings "+10% HP, +1/+1 Armor": late in a game, the real numbers are higher.

"Sicilian unique building. A tower that can train Serjeants. Can be built in the Feudal Age, providing early tower rush potential."
Strategic Analysis
Strategic Role
The Donjon is a unique tower for Sicilians that combines defensive capability with unit production. It enables powerful tower rush strategies in Feudal Age.
Key Tactics
Feudal Tower Rush
Build Donjons near enemy resources in Feudal Age. Produce Serjeants to defend the towers and attack villagers.
Serjeant Spam
Serjeants can build more Donjons. Use this for a cascading tower rush that's hard to stop.
Forward Base
A cluster of Donjons creates a forward base that produces infantry and provides defensive fire.
Warning
Donjons cost stone which limits Castle and Town Center construction. Balance your strategy carefully.
Stats Analysis
The Donjon is a versatile building combining tower defense with Serjeant production.
Feudal Access
Feudal Age
Available from Feudal Age unlike Castles. Enables early unique unit access.
Unit Production
Serjeants
Produces Serjeants who can themselves build Donjons.
Garrisoned Fire
10 units
The Donjon has no attack of its own: garrisoned Ranged Soldiers and Villagers shoot the projectiles.
Units Produced
Placement Tip
Build Donjons aggressively near enemy resources. The earlier you pressure, the more effective.
Timing Tip
Start building Donjons immediately upon reaching Feudal Age for maximum pressure.

Context & meta
The Donjon is the Sicilian unique defensive fortification. The building record lists Feudal Age, 50 wood and 175 stone, 125 seconds to build, 625 HP, 5 attack, range 6, 0 melee/6 pierce armor, line of sight 10, and ten garrison spaces. The official help says it trains the Sicilian Unique Unit and the Spearman-line, gives garrisoned Ranged Soldiers and Villagers extra projectiles, and unlocks the Archery Range and Stable. It is a tower, a production building, and a forward-base anchor at once. That power is paid for in stone and in the time needed to make the position meaningful.
History & balance
The Donjon defines the Sicilian defensive identity by making fortification an active production decision. Sicilians start with +100 stone, build Fortifications 50% faster, build Town Centers 100% faster, receive +125% additional food from Farm upgrades, and make their Soldiers take 40% less bonus damage. The Donjon then turns that stone economy into a location that trains Serjeants and the Spearman-line, while its garrison adds fire and its unlocks widen the army. The building record places it in the Feudal Age, so its history is not a late emergency wall: it is an early territorial commitment that can keep producing after the first forward placement.
In pro play
Place a Donjon where its 10 line of sight and ten garrison spaces protect a resource while the building queue supports the next push. The 50 wood, 175 stone, and 125-second build time demand an escort: send builders when the opponent cannot focus them, then bring Serjeants or Spearmen through the same position. Use the structure to unlock an Archery Range or Stable only when that production changes the composition, not as a consolation for a failed rush. Its 625 HP can hold a forward point, but the building is strongest when it keeps producing and the Sicilian army fights around it rather than hiding inside forever.
How to counter it
The classic mistake is walking ordinary melee units under a Donjon while garrison fire lands and Serjeants keep appearing. The official help gives no literal Weak vs. category, but identifies a fortified defensive production structure. Use Siege Weapons outside the range of its garrison: Trebuchets pressure the 625-HP building and Bombard Cannons add long-range structure damage. Deny builders and the next Donjon, then open a second angle instead of repeating one failed assault. If you keep losing to Donjons without knowing what to produce or when, AoE Coach reads your match-up and gives you the counter composition and timing.
