Shrivamsha Rider
CavalryBase values, before Blacksmith upgrades. The Blacksmith raises attack and armour for infantry, cavalry and archers — Blast Furnace, for instance, gives "+2 Attack for infantry & cavalry". Late in a game, the real numbers are higher.

ImperialThe coach's briefing
The Shrivamsha Rider is a 'High-Tech Interceptor'. It has a regenerating shield bar that absorbs projectile hits completely. This allows it to tank castle fire or massed crossbows without taking damage initially. However, it has very low HP and armor once the shield is depleted, making it useless against Knights or Pikemen.

Strategic Analysis
Tactical Identity
The **Projectile Sponge**. Use them to raid under TC fire or dive archer masses.
Tactical Playbook
Shield Management
The shield blocks a set number of projectiles (5-7). Engage, absorb the volley, then retreat to let it recharge quickly.
Archer Killer
With their immense speed (1.6) and dodge mechanic, Arbalesters cannot stop them. They are the best anti-archer unit in the game.
Raiding
They can run under Town Centers, ignore the arrows, kill villagers, and escape before taking real damage.
Critical Point
Paper vs **Melee**. A standard Knight beats a Shrivamsha easily. Halberdiers destroy them instantly. Never take a melee fight.
Understanding The Stats
Stats are comparable to a Scout Cavalry, but the Shield mechanic adds 'virtual HP' against ranged attacks.
Dodge Shield
Blocks damage completely until depleted. Recharges fast. Weak vs mass fire (depletes faster).
Speed
Faster than almost everything. Can dictate when to fight.
Base Stats
Low HP and Attack compared to Knights. Rely on the shield entirely.
Coach's Tip
Your shield is everything - treat it like extra lives, not armor. Dive in, absorb the archer volley, then RETREAT before melee units reach you. Rinse and repeat.

AoE Coach analysis
Context & meta
The Shrivamsha Rider is the Gurjara unique fast Cavalry that can dodge projectiles. It costs 70 food and 30 gold, trains in 20 seconds, has 55 HP, 8 attack, 0 melee/1 pierce armor, speed 1.6, and line of sight 5. The official help says it is strong against Ranged Soldiers, but weak against the Spearman-line and Camel Riders. It is tagged Cavalry and Unique Unit, with no local attack bonus. Its identity is tempo: 1.6 speed and projectile dodging let it cross open ground, but 55 HP and 0 melee armor make a failed collision very expensive.
History & balance
The Shrivamsha Rider is the mobile edge of the Gurjara roster. Gurjaras start with two Forage Bushes, can garrison livestock in Mills for passive food, and their Mounted Units deal +20, +30, then +40% bonus damage by age. Camel and Elephant Units train 25% faster, and Kshatriyas reduces the food cost of Military Units by 25% in the Castle Age. Frontier Guards later gives +4 melee armor to Camel Riders and Elephant Archers, not to the Shrivamsha Rider, so the unique cavalry remains defined by movement and projectile avoidance. It is the unit that turns Gurjara food security into map-wide threat.
In pro play
Use Shrivamsha Riders to create decisions, not to stand in a line. At 1.6 speed they can switch flanks, dive on exposed Villagers, and force Ranged Soldiers to move; projectile dodging makes the approach through arrow fire unusually efficient. The 20-second train time supports pressure, but 70 food and 30 gold mean that a careless dive still drains the economy. Keep the 55-HP riders moving, attack from several directions, and disengage before Spearmen or Camel Riders make contact. A Gurjara player should use the first group to reveal the enemy composition, then decide whether the next resources buy more mobility or a hard front to protect it.
How to counter it
The classic mistake is relying on Archers and assuming every projectile must connect, allowing Shrivamsha Riders to raid freely. The official help gives the categories: Spearman-line and Camel Riders. Halberdiers carry +32 against Cavalry, Pikemen +22, and Camel Riders +9. Place them around resources instead of chasing the 1.6-speed unit, use buildings and narrow terrain to remove its movement advantage, then focus a trapped rider. If you keep losing to Shrivamsha Riders without knowing what to produce or when, AoE Coach reads your match-up and gives you the counter composition and timing.
