Imperial Skirmisher
ArcherBase values, before Blacksmith upgrades. The Blacksmith raises attack and armour for infantry, cavalry and archers — Blast Furnace, for instance, gives "+2 Attack for infantry & cavalry". Late in a game, the real numbers are higher.

ImperialThe coach's briefing
The Imperial Skirmisher is the final form of the Skirmisher line. Exclusive to Vietnamese and their allies, you get 5 pierce armor and +5 bonus against archers - making you nearly invincible against ranged units. Your 4 attack and improved bonuses let you shred even Imperial Age archers. This is the ultimate trash unit for late-game archer wars. Remember though, you're still completely helpless against melee. Stay behind Halberdiers and let enemies come to your killing ground.

Strategic Analysis
Tactical Identity
The Imperial Skirmisher is the **endgame archer delete button**. When both players are low on gold and fighting with trash units, Imperial Skirms give Vietnamese and their allies a decisive edge.
Tactical Playbook
Arbalester Annihilation
Against Arbalester spam, Imperial Skirms are the perfect answer. 5 pierce armor means Arbs deal 1 damage. You kill them in 4 shots.
Team Game Value
As Vietnamese, share this upgrade with allies. Having the entire team upgrade to Imperial Skirm can swing late-game archer wars decisively.
Elephant Archer Counter
Your +5 vs Archer works against Elephant Archers too. Combined with Halberdiers, you can dismantle even the tankiest ranged compositions.
Critical Point
No melee armor whatsoever. Hussars, Paladins, and Champions will annihilate you. You MUST have frontline protection to function.
Understanding The Stats
The Imperial Skirmisher pushes the Skirmisher concept to its limit. Maximum pierce armor for a trash unit makes it the most efficient archer counter in the game.
Maximum Pierce Armor
5 pierce armor is extraordinary. Fully upgraded Arbalesters deal 0 damage to you (1 minimum). You're functionally immune to arrows.
Enhanced Archer Bonus
4 attack + 5 bonus = 9 damage to archers. Arbalesters have 40 HP. You kill in 5 shots while taking almost no damage.
Still Trash
25 Food, 35 Wood. Even this ultimate form costs no gold. Produce them infinitely while enemy gold runs dry.
Team Bonus
Vietnamese unique but shared with allies. In team games, your entire team gets access to this powerful unit.
Coach's Tip
5 pierce armor makes arrows a joke. With Bracer, you have 6 PA total. Arbalesters with 6 attack deal 1 damage minimum. You tank 35 shots! This is maximum efficiency.

Context & meta
The Imperial Skirmisher is the Vietnamese unique Imperial Age ranged unit: 25 food and 35 wood, 22 seconds to train, 35 HP, 4 attack, 0 melee and 5 pierce armor, 5 range, 0.96 speed and 7 line of sight. It is an Archer-class unit with bonuses of +5 against Archer, +2 against Cavalry Archer and +3 against Spearman in its unit data. Vietnamese Archery Range units have +20% HP and Conscription is free, so the same ranged core is unusually durable and easy to reinforce. Its role is defined by that distance.
History & balance
The Imperial Skirmisher is an escalation of the skirmisher idea rather than a new battlefield role. It remains a ranged soldier that wants distance, but its Imperial upgrade is aimed directly at massed archers and the Spearman line. The Vietnamese identity gives that familiar tool a distinct late-game purpose: a player can keep answering ranged pressure without switching to an expensive gold-heavy unit. Its close-range weakness is the balancing anchor, so the unit rewards screens, focus fire and disciplined retreats more than brave contact.
In pro play
Build Imperial Skirmishers when scouting confirms ranged soldiers or Spearman-line units, then protect the production cycle instead of taking a melee fight. The unit costs only food and wood, trains in 22 seconds and reaches five range, but 35 HP means each contact is costly. Bracer, Ring Archer Armor and Thumb Ring are listed key upgrades. For Vietnamese, +20% HP on Archery Range units and free Conscription amplify a sustained mass; use that advantage to keep firing, not to walk into the opponent. Add a close-range screen, focus one target class at a time and retreat before the line is touched.
How to counter it
The classic mistake is trying to answer Imperial Skirmishers with more ranged units, or allowing them to kite an army that never reaches them. Official help gives the categories: Ranged Soldiers and Spearman-line as strong against; units at close range as weak against. A Legionary brings 75 HP; a Winged Hussar reaches 1.5 speed. Their mechanical answer is contact, not a class bonus against Archers. Use a screen, surround from more than one angle and make the ranged mass fight at zero distance. If Imperial Skirmishers win because you cannot choose composition or timing, that is exactly what AoE Coach does: it reads your match-up and gives you the counter composition and timing.
