Context & meta

Supplies is a Feudal Age Barracks technology. Its upgrade record lists a 75 food and 75 gold cost, 20 seconds of research time, and an effect of -15 food for Militia-line units. Its affected-unit list covers Militia, Man-at-Arms, Long Swordsman, Two-Handed Swordsman and Champion. The official vendor strings do not contain a name or help entry for this technology, so the local upgrade record is the authority for this description and no missing combat category is being inferred. The savings matter only through production.

History & balance

Supplies belongs to the part of Age of Empires II where a small research decision changes the shape of an entire production plan. It does not add a new attack, armor value or special move. Instead, it reduces the food burden of the Militia line, allowing the same Barracks investment to translate into more affordable pressure. That makes the technology a bridge between economic planning and military identity: its value appears only when the player actually converts the saved food into queued infantry rather than leaving the bonus idle.

In pro play

Research Supplies when the plan is to keep the Militia line active from Feudal Age onward. The 20-second research window is short, but the 75 food and 75 gold price still competes with army production, economic upgrades and the next age. Queue it before the Barracks becomes the bottleneck, then make the saved food visible through continuous Militia-line production. The affected list includes the later infantry upgrades, so the value can carry forward into a longer plan. If scouting shows no infantry commitment, keep the resources for the composition you actually intend to sustain.

How to counter it

Supplies has no combat counter because it is a Barracks technology, not a unit. The coaching mistake is researching it automatically, then producing too little Militia-line to recover the 75 food and 75 gold investment, or researching it so late that the Feudal pressure window is gone. Read it as a timing choice: deny the opponent safe food and gold, force idle production, or pressure the Barracks plan before it compounds. Do not chase the technology itself; punish the army and economy that are supposed to make it pay. If you keep missing the right research and production timing, that is exactly what AoE Coach does: it reads your match-up and gives you the composition and timing.
