Hulk
Castle Age melee warship that counters Fire Ships. A tough close-range brawler for naval engagements.
Tactical Briefing
Commander, the Hulk is a heavy-built melee warship designed to dominate close-range naval combat. With thick planking and reinforced hull, the Hulk excels against Fire Ships — dealing +6 bonus damage that makes it the primary Fire Ship counter in Castle Age. Its 120 HP and 6 melee armor make it extremely durable in close engagements. However, the Hulk is a melee vessel — it must close distance to attack, making it vulnerable to Galleys and War Galleys that can kite from range. Use Hulks to protect your fleet from Fire Ship raids and to control narrow waterways where their melee advantage is maximized. Upgrade to War Hulk in Imperial Age for improved stats.

Strategic Analysis
The Hulk is the **anti-Fire Ship specialist** and melee naval brawler. It fills a unique niche as the only dedicated melee ship counter to Fire Ships in Castle Age.
- Fire Ship Counter: +6 vs Fire Ships means 14 total damage per hit. Fire Ships (120 HP) die in about 9 hits. Keep Hulks in your fleet composition to deny Fire Ship rushes.
- Narrow Waterways: On maps with rivers or narrow passages, Hulks dominate. Enemies cannot kite in tight spaces, forcing the close-range engagements where Hulks excel.
- Fleet Tanking: With 120 HP and 6 melee armor, Hulks can absorb tremendous punishment. Use them as a shield for your Galleys and ranged ships.
- Ship Bonus: +4 vs Ships provides solid general damage against all naval units, making Hulks useful beyond just Fire Ship countering.
Warning: Being melee means **Galleys and War Galleys** can kite you endlessly on open water. Never send Hulks alone — they need ranged ship support to close distance.
