Jaguar Warrior
InfantryBase values, before Blacksmith upgrades. The Blacksmith raises attack and armour for infantry, cavalry and archers — Blast Furnace, for instance, gives "+2 Attack for infantry & cavalry". Late in a game, the real numbers are higher.

ImperialThe coach's briefing
You exist to destroy infantry. With 15 attack and +5 bonus vs infantry, you deal 20 damage per hit to enemy infantry - that's a 2-hit kill on most infantry units. Your 65 HP and 1/2 armor make you reasonably tanky. But against anything else - cavalry, archers - you're just average infantry. Know your role: hunt infantry relentlessly.

Strategic Analysis
Tactical Identity
The Jaguar Warrior is the **supreme infantry counter**. No other infantry survives a prolonged fight against them.
Tactical Playbook
Infantry Annihilator
+5 bonus means 20 damage per hit to infantry. Champions die in 3 hits.
Anti-Goth
Perfect counter to Goth infantry spam. Huskarls melt against Jaguars.
Pierce Armor
2 pierce armor helps vs archers. Better survival than most infantry.
Critical Point
**Only good vs infantry**. Against cavalry or archers, you're just expensive Champions. Don't waste them on wrong targets.
Understanding The Stats
The Jaguar Warrior trades versatility for unmatched anti-infantry power with good defensive stats.
Infantry Killer
Combined with 15 attack = 20 damage to infantry per hit.
High Attack
Strong base damage. Competitive even vs non-infantry.
Good Armor
2 pierce armor is excellent for infantry. Takes less from archers.
Solid HP
Above-average for infantry. Survives longer in fights.
Coach's Tip
15 attack + 5 vs infantry = 20 damage. Champions have 70 HP and 1 armor, so you deal 19 damage per hit - 4 hits to kill. They deal 13-1=12 to you - 6 hits. You win easily.

Context & meta
The Jaguar Warrior is the Aztec unique unit, an infantry specialist built to dominate other infantry. It carries a large attack bonus versus infantry units — including Eagle Warriors, Militia-line and other unique infantry — making it the premier answer in any infantry-vs-infantry matchup. In the Meso-American mirror against the Mayans, Jaguar Warriors hard-counter the enemy Eagle Warriors that civilization relies on. Backed by the Aztec military bonus (units created +15% faster) and their strong Monk and Eagle play, Jaguar Warriors anchor a powerful infantry-and-Eagle composition.
History & balance
The Jaguar Warrior's anti-infantry bonus has defined it since Age of Kings, and it remains the cleanest counter to the Eagle Warrior — a critical balance role given how many civilizations now have Eagles. Aztec balance has mostly been tuned through their economy and Monk bonuses rather than the Jaguar Warrior itself. Because Aztecs have no cavalry and no gunpowder, the Jaguar Warrior plus Eagle plus siege package is their core identity, and the unit has stayed a situational but powerful pick across every patch.
In pro play
Aztecs are a top Arabia civilization, and while Eagle Warriors and Monks do most of the work, the Jaguar Warrior is the key tech-switch against infantry-committed opponents. Pros bring it out specifically against Meso mirrors, Goth infantry floods, and Viking/Japanese infantry play, where its bonus turns a losing melee fight into a winning one. The Aztec +15% faster unit creation lets them mass Jaguar Warriors and Eagles quickly from fewer buildings. The "Jaguar switch" is a decisive read when an Aztec player scouts enemy infantry.
How to counter it
Never fight Jaguar Warriors with infantry — that is exactly what they are designed to beat. Counter them with archers (they have low pierce armor relative to their melee strength), cavalry (which they have no bonus against and which runs them down), and siege. Since Aztecs have no cavalry of their own, a mounted army both counters the Jaguar Warrior and exploits the Aztec roster gap. Mangonels and Scorpions punish massed Jaguar Warriors. The macro counter is simply not committing to infantry against Aztecs — pick a composition the Jaguar Warrior gains no bonus against.
