Mameluke
CamelBase values, before Blacksmith upgrades. The Blacksmith raises attack and armour for infantry, cavalry and archers — Blast Furnace, for instance, gives "+2 Attack for infantry & cavalry". Late in a game, the real numbers are higher.

ImperialThe coach's briefing
You're a ranged cavalry killer on a camel. With 3 range and +9 bonus vs cavalry, you shred Knights and Hussars while staying mobile at 1.4 speed. Your Mameluke has only 80 HP and 0/0 armor - you're fragile despite your cost. Kite enemies constantly and never take melee fights. Archers are your biggest threat - your 0 pierce armor means Arbalesters tear you apart.

Strategic Analysis
Tactical Identity
The Mameluke is the **ultimate anti-cavalry ranged unit**. Combining camel bonuses with ranged attack and high mobility creates a devastating cavalry counter.
Tactical Playbook
Ranged Anti-Cav
3 range + 9 bonus vs cavalry = you kill Knights without them touching you. Micro constantly.
Cavalry Archer Killer
+9 bonus vs cavalry archers. Heavy Cavalry Archers die fast to massed Mamelukes.
Hit and Run
1.4 speed is very fast. Hit, retreat, repeat. Never let enemies close the gap.
Critical Point
**Zero armor makes you fragile**. Archers, Skirmishers, and even Militia can hurt you badly. Bring Hussars to tank.
Understanding The Stats
The Mameluke trades durability for incredible anti-cavalry damage at range with exceptional mobility.
Ranged Attack
Can attack cavalry without taking return damage. Micro to maximize this.
Cavalry Killer
Combined with base 8 attack = 17 damage per hit to Knights.
Very Fast
One of the fastest units. Can chase or escape almost anything.
Fragile
No armor at all. Every point of damage gets through.
Coach's Tip
80 HP and 0/0 armor is very fragile for your 55F/85G cost. But 3 range and 1.4 speed means good micro makes you nearly untouchable.

Context & meta
Mameluke is the Saracen unique Cavalry unit with a ranged melee attack. It costs 55 food and 85 gold, has 80 HP, 8 attack, 0/0 armor, 3 range, 1.4 speed and 5 line of sight, with a 23-second train time. The official help says it is strong against Mounted Units and weak against Archery Units and the Spearman-line. Its data gives +8 against Cavalry and +9 against Cavalry Archers; the Saracen bonus adds +25% HP to Camel Units, and Mameluke carries the Camel class. It is a mobile anti-mounted specialist, not a normal sword cavalry body.
History & balance
Mameluke is inseparable from the Saracen Camel-and-Naval identity. The official civilization description lists the unit as unique and gives Camel Units +25% HP, while the unit help points to Blacksmith attack and armor, Stable speed and HP, creation speed and the Castle conversion to Elite Mameluke. The design combines a Camel tag with a ranged melee attack, allowing the unit to keep dealing damage while it moves. That unusual profile explains both the 85-gold cost and the strict counter list: its value is concentrated in mounted targets and positioning.
In pro play
Use Mamelukes as a moving firing line against Cavalry, Cavalry Archers and other mounted targets. Three range and 1.4 speed let them step away while the +8 Cavalry and +9 Cavalry Archer bonuses keep the damage focused; the Saracen +25% Camel HP makes each body more forgiving than its base 80 HP suggests. Do not let the 0/0 armor invite an Archer duel or a spear surround. Keep a route behind the group, focus one mounted target at a time and use the 55 food/85 gold investment where the class bonus can pay for it.
How to counter it
The classic mistake is to fight Mamelukes with Cavalry because they look like a mounted unit, feeding the +8 anti-Cavalry bonus. In practice, the counters are Arbalesters, Elite Skirmishers, Halberdiers and Camel Riders. Elite Skirmishers have +2 against the Mameluke class and Halberdiers +7; Arbalesters use range, while Camel Riders add +5 against the Camel class carried by Mamelukes. Close the space only with the spear screen, or shoot from safety. If you keep losing to Mamelukes without knowing what to build or when, that is exactly what AoE Coach does: it reads your match-up and gives you the counter composition and timing.
