Elite Mameluke
CamelBase values, before Blacksmith upgrades. The Blacksmith raises attack and armour for infantry, cavalry and archers — Blast Furnace, for instance, gives "+2 Attack for infantry & cavalry". Late in a game, the real numbers are higher.

ImperialThe coach's briefing
You gain +2 attack for 10 total, and your cavalry bonus jumps to +12. That's 22 damage per hit to Knights - a 4-hit kill on Cavaliers. Your cavalry archer bonus also increases to +12. The Elite upgrade costs only 600F/500G - relatively cheap for the power boost. You still have fragile 80 HP and 1/0 armor though, so keep micro-ing.

Strategic Analysis
Tactical Identity
The Elite Mameluke becomes an **even more devastating cavalry hunter**. Enhanced bonuses make it the ultimate counter to any cavalry composition.
Tactical Playbook
Cavalry Destroyer
10 base + 12 bonus = 22 damage vs cavalry. Cavaliers die in 4 hits, Hussars in 3.
CA Counter
+12 vs cavalry destroys Heavy CA and Mangudai — both carry the Cavalry armour class. They can't kite you at 1.4 speed.
Slight Armor
1/0 armor now helps slightly. Militia deal 12 instead of 13, etc.
Critical Point
**Still only 80 HP**. Archers remain deadly. A mass of Arbalesters will shred Elite Mamelukes before they can close.
Understanding The Stats
The Elite upgrade significantly increases killing power against cavalry while adding slight melee protection.
Higher Attack
+2 over base. With +12 bonus = 22 damage vs cavalry.
Better CA Bonus
+3 over base. Heavy CA take 22 damage per hit.
Some Armor
+1 melee armor. Helps slightly in melee fights.
Same Speed
Still blazing fast. Outrun most threats easily.
Coach's Tip
10 attack at 3 range with 1.4 speed - that's incredible kiting potential. You can kill almost any melee unit without ever being touched.

Context & meta
Elite Mameluke is the Saracen mounted unit with a ranged melee attack. It costs 55 food and 85 gold, trains in 23 seconds, and has 80 HP, 10 attack, 1 melee armor and 0 pierce armor. Its range is 3, speed 1.4, and line of sight 5. The unit can pressure mounted targets without standing directly on top of them, but its gold price and low pierce armor make careless exposure expensive. It wants open space, a screen against archers, and enough room to retreat after each short volley. Distance is the shield.
History & balance
The Mameluke captures a distinctive battlefield idea: a mounted fighter whose weapon reaches beyond the normal contact line. Its Saracen identity makes mobility and range part of the unit's character, but the game keeps the tradeoff visible. A Mameluke is not a conventional archer and not a conventional melee cavalry unit; it wins by controlling the distance between those two jobs. The Elite form rewards a player who reads mounted matchups and uses the extra reach without allowing the army to be surrounded.
In pro play
Use Elite Mamelukes to punish cavalry routes and exposed support, then move before a ranged line can settle on them. Their 1.4 speed and 3 range create a short kite window; their 23-second train time and 85-gold cost demand that every raid has an exit. Keep the group large enough to focus a target, place a screen between Mamelukes and archers, and avoid fighting in a tight corner where the range cannot matter. A good Mameluke fight is a sequence of chosen distances, not a permanent charge. Keep the route open.
How to counter it
The classic mistake is sending cavalry into Elite Mamelukes and assuming the ranged melee attack will stop after contact, or using only Archers without protecting them. The official help gives the categories: Mounted Units as a strength, and Archery and the Spearman-line as weaknesses. In practice, Pikemen have a real bonus against Mamelukes, while Elite Skirmishers also have a real Mameluke bonus and can use pierce armor to survive the return fire. Close the exits, focus one unit, and keep the counter together. Facing Elite Mamelukes without knowing what to produce or when? AoE Coach reads your matchup and gives you the composition + timing.
