Archery Range
Military - FeudalBase values, before building technologies. Masonry and then Architecture each give buildings "+10% HP, +1/+1 Armor": late in a game, the real numbers are higher.

"Military building that trains archer units. Available from the Feudal Age, it produces ranged units that excel at harassment and support."
Strategic Analysis
Strategic Role
The Archery Range is your gateway to ranged military power. Archers provide unmatched harassment potential and are the backbone of many powerful strategies.
Key Tactics
Archer Rush (Flush)
Build an Archery Range immediately upon reaching Feudal Age. Produce Archers continuously while adding a second Range. 6-8 Archers can devastate an unprotected economy.
Skirmisher Defense
If your opponent is massing archers, produce Skirmishers as a cost-effective counter. They deal bonus damage to archers and only cost food and wood.
Crossbow Power Spike
Upon reaching Castle Age, immediately research Crossbowman. The upgrade provides a massive power spike that can win games if timed correctly.
Cavalry Archer Mobility
In Castle Age, Cavalry Archers offer superior mobility. They require heavy investment but are extremely powerful in hit-and-run tactics.
Warning
Archers without Ballistics in Castle Age will miss moving targets consistently. Research it as soon as you can afford it.
Stats Analysis
The Archery Range is a sturdy military building with high pierce armor, making it resistant to its own units. It serves as an excellent forward base for archer aggression.
Hit Points
1500 HP
More durable than the Barracks with 1500 HP. Can withstand significant damage while you reinforce your army.
Pierce Armor
8 PA
Exceptional pierce armor makes the Archery Range nearly immune to archer harassment. Perfect for forward building during archer wars.
Build Time
50s
Same construction time as other military buildings. Start building before clicking up to Feudal to have archers as soon as possible.
Garrison Capacity
10 Units
Can garrison 10 units for protection. Garrisoned units fire arrows, making it a defensive strongpoint.
Wood Cost
175 Wood
Standard military building cost. Plan your lumber camp placement to afford multiple Ranges quickly.
Units Produced

Placement Tip
Place your Archery Range forward near the enemy woodline for constant pressure. In team games, position it behind your walls for safe production.
Timing Tip
Start building your Archery Range at around 21-22 population for a standard archer rush. Have at least 5 on gold before producing.

Context & meta
The Archery Range is a Feudal Age military building costing 175 wood and 50 seconds to build. It has 1500 HP, 1 melee armor, 8 pierce armor, 5 line of sight and a garrison capacity of 10. Its prerequisite is the Barracks. The official help says it is used to train and upgrade Ranged Soldiers; the building record lists Archers, Crossbowmen, Skirmishers, Cavalry Archers, Hand Cannoneers and other ranged lines, plus Thumb Ring and Parthian Tactics as available technologies. The building itself has no attack or range stat.
History & balance
The Archery Range is the building where information becomes safe damage. A ranged army is not created by the building alone; it requires time, wood, food, upgrades and a position from which its projectiles matter. That is why the Range has a wide identity but a fragile strategic window: it opens in Feudal Age, yet the units it supports may need several upgrades before they can convert distance into a win. The building is therefore both a production point and a promise that the player intends to control space rather than trade at contact.
In pro play
Place the Archery Range where it can keep producing even when the first army is pressured. The 175-wood cost and 50-second build time make the first placement a real Feudal decision; the Barracks prerequisite should be part of the opening plan, not a surprise. Choose the line from scouting: Archers and Crossbowmen need protection, Skirmishers answer ranged pressure, and mounted archers trade cost for mobility. Use the listed Thumb Ring or Parthian Tactics when the selected line benefits, but never research blindly. Add a second Range only when the economy can keep both queues alive and the army has a safe route to the fight.
How to counter it
The Archery Range has no combat Weak vs. category: the official help describes its production role, not a battlefield matchup. The classic mistake is fighting the Ranged Soldiers while allowing the building, its wood supply and its builders to work uninterrupted. Neutralize what the Range produces: deny the second building, raid the wood economy, force the ranged line home and make each queue idle. Do not assume that destroying one Range removes units already on the map; the goal is to stop reinforcement and expose the economy behind it. If you keep losing to ranged pressure without knowing what to produce or when, AoE Coach reads your match-up and gives you the composition and timing.
